[email protected] Today, we introduced the letter Aa in class. We talked about the sound of Aa, what it looks like and searched for it in our classroom and on papers. Students worked hard using their fine motor skills to complete a torn paper apple and also practiced printing the letter Aa. We will finish up our apples tomorrow and hang them on our bulletin board. Tomorrow, the class will learn about the letter Bb.
As I mentioned, this week we are busy learning names in our classroom. Today, we counted the letters in our names and sorted these to create a chart. Students also finished up their rainbow name projects! They did a great job and I love how colorful they make our room (see picture below). This afternoon, the class had fun working on fine motor skills while painting their names with Q-tips. We work daily on printing names as well.
Tomorrow we will get started with our letter of the day and will introduce letter Aa. I included a list of color words in your child's folder today. Color words will be our sight word focus for the months of August and September. Please be sure to check out the information that was sent home today and sight words.. Thanks and have a great evening! :) Happy Monday Kindergarten Families! We are ready for a busy week in Kindergarten. Today and tomorrow we are focusing on recognizing names (students' own names & their classmates) and writing first names. One thing that is tricky in Kindergarten is getting used to writing first names with only the first letter as a capital letter. I know that in many preschools, students begin writing their names with all capital letters. So, it takes a little bit of time for them to adjust to writing it with lower case letters. Please encourage this practice at home as well. Today, we made a classroom name chart and will be adding photos of the students later this week. Students are also working on a name project that we will be hanging up in our classroom when it is complete. We started with glue rules today to work on our name project, and will continue with cutting tomorrow. Students visited the library today, but have not started checking out books yet. Tomorrow, they will visit the computer lab. FYI: Later this week, we will be having a fire drill and an intruder drill. Next week, we will have a tornado drill. This is something that we will be discussing as a class, but I know for some students, this will be their first time experiencing this type of drill, so I wanted to let you know in case you would like to talk about it at home with your child. HOMEWORK: Tonight, students have a name practice homework assignment to complete. It came home in their folders. This should only take about 5 - 10 minutes for your child to complete. Please have your child return this to school tomorrow. Thanks for your support at home! :) I am so proud of our Kindergarten students! They are doing great! Today, we took time to focus on the "4 B's" of Whiteside School. We talked about ways that we can "Be Safe, Be Caring, Be Respectful and Be Responsible" at Whiteside School. The students learned that when they follow these rules, they have the opportunity to earn Star Student Awards from time to time! :) The students worked hard these last two days to learn all of the routines of our classroom and our school. There is a lot to learn! :) We also talked about our learning tools (pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, etc.) and how they can help us learn. Next week, we will work on glue and scissor skills as well as name printing. If you are looking for things to practice at home, you can have your child practice writing his or her name and recognizing all of the letters in his/her name. We will also start our letter of the day program with letter A on Wednesday. Each day, there will be quick introduction of each letter in order A - Z. When we finish our letter of the day program, then we will begin our letter of the week program. This week, the students met Mrs. Brush, the music teacher and Mrs. Mosby, the art teacher. Next week, they will go to the rest of our specials classes and meet the remaining teachers. I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend! Below is a reminder about the
